Abstract The beginning of the series of articles is devoted to the contribution of Russian and foreign scientists, surgeons and dentists to the development of local anesthesia methods in surgery and dentistry at the turn of XIX-XX centuries. The contribution of N.nbsp;I.nbsp;Pirogov who paid much attention to the study of topographic anatomy of the facial and neck cellular spaces is noted. Ludwig Schleich and Paul Reclus developed the principles of infiltration anesthesia. The dvantages and disadvantages of the tight creeping infiltration method proposed by A.nbsp;V.nbsp;Vishnevsky are considered. The contribution to the development of conductive and regional anaesthesia by N.nbsp;I.nbsp;Maklakov is noted, W.nbsp;S.nbsp;Holsted, Richard Hall, A.nbsp;I.nbsp;Lukashevich, Maximilian Oberst, V.nbsp;F.nbsp;Voyno-Yasenetsky, George Crile, Heinrich Braun and others. The history of the discovery of procaine (novocaine), Part 3 / P. Stolyarenko // Danish Scientific Journal. — 2022. - № 59. - С. 23‑35.
Abstract The beginning is published in DSJ 2022, No. 56, p. 26‒36, No. 57, p. 22‒35. Part three, focuses on the significance of the discovery of novocaine for the development of local anesthesia. The biography of the inventor of novocaine, the chemist Alfred Einhorn, fragments of the history of Höchst, and the development of local anesthesia with novocaine in Russia in the early 20th century and during World War I are described. The history of the discovery of procaine (novocaine), Part 2 / P. Stolyarenko // Danish Scientific Journal. — 2022. - № 57. - С. 22‑35.
Abstract The beginning of the article is published in DSJ 2022, No. 56, p. 26‒36. The second part is devoted to the introduction of novocaine and suprarenin (adrenaline) into the clinical practice. The studies of the German surgeon Heinrich Braun and the dental professor Guido Fischer are described and illustrated in detail. To be continued.

Abstract Procaine is a local anesthetic from the amino ester group. It is used primarily to reduce pain during intramuscular injection of penicillin, as well as in dentistry. Novocaine acts mainly as a sodium channel blocker. Today it is used therapeutically in some countries because of its sympatholytic, anti-inflammatory, perfusion- and moodenhancing effects. In 1904, after years of testing and experimentation, German chemist Alfred Einhorn first synthesized the drug, patenting procaine under the trade name Novocaine. Before the discovery of amylocaine and novocaine, cocaine was a widely used local anesthetic. Einhorn wanted his new discovery to be used for amputations, but surgeons preferred anesthesia for this purpose. However, dentists found it very useful. Although the anesthetic abilities of novocaine were weaker than those of cocaine, it proved to be the safest and most effective alternative to cocaine. To be continued.
Abstract The article deals with issues related to the display in art and literature of an important event in the history of medicine - the discovery of anesthesia. The styles of painting by Robert Cutler Hinckley's "The First Operation with Ether", Warren and Lucia Prosperi's "Ether Day, 1846", 2001 are discussed. Rare photos and daguerreotypes are given. The 30 illustrations show the dramatic fate of the characters, and provide commentary and bibliographic references.
